QUALIFICATIONS OF ELDERS Titus 1:5-9 Paul
told Titus, “This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what
remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you” (Titus
1:5 ESV), and then said that an elder must meet these qualifications: 1.
“above
reproach” (ESV, NASB), “blameless” (McCord), “not…guilty of doing wrong” (NCV) 2.
“the husband
of one wife” (ESV, NASB, McCord), “have only one wife” (NCV) 3.
“his children
are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination”
(ESV); “having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion”
(NASB); “having faithful children not accused of dissipation or disobedience”
(McCord), “have believing children. They must not be known as children who are
wild and do not cooperate” (NCV) 4.
“not…arrogant”
