In a movie which is not even worth watching with ClearPlay, a character makes this statement, “I Like to Think of Jesus Wearing a Tuxedo T-Shirt. ’Cause it says like, I wanna be formal but I’m here to party too. I like to party, so I like my Jesus to party.” As the scene continues, everyone says how they picture Jesus. Although intended for “comedic value,” I think this scene is a fairly accurate glimpse of today’s theology concerning Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
The world likes to picture Jesus as the one who tolerates and condones whatever lifestyle they want to live. They ask the question, “What would Jesus do?” But, they answer it based on their picture of Jesus. Like the character in the movie, if they like to party they say, “Jesus wouldn’t have any problem havin’ a few beers with his buddies.” If they are homosexuals they say, “Jesus would accept everyone and wouldn’t judge them for their lifestyle.”
Jesus has become a chameleon in today’s culture. He has become whatever people want Him to be. He has become their trump card. If someone says, “I’m not sure that’s a good decision,” they quickly reply, “Well, this is what Jesus would be doing if He lived today.”
As Hosea recorded, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6).
It all boils down to the fact that people do not know Jesus. They do not know the Jesus of Scripture:
It bothers me to hear people use my Lord as a justification for sin!
Peter, one of Jesus’ apostles, one of the men who knew Him best, one of the men inspired to teach the world about Christ wrote,
“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy’” (1 Peter 1:13-16).
Jesus was God in the flesh (John 1:1-14). He walked on this earth showing us how to be perfect. He showed us how to love and He showed us how to be obedient. Please take the time to get to know the real Jesus Christ!
