An F-5 Home in an F-5 Town Joplin, MO, May 22, 2011 Home? Where is my home? Oh, it's there, But it's major gone! I was in it - I couldn't get out Until Cody cleared a doorway out. (stranger) I sat in my chair By an inside wall And watched the air - I saw it "all" Oh, so still - Not a breath nor a sigh My quivering ilk Said, "Tornado, THIS time!" I didn't hear A lot of noise; I guess I was numb with fear - avoid! A huge green limb Sailed gracefully by; Then "Cl-ink", And the roof took flight. "Cl-ink!" Another piece Rolled into the yard And blocked the street With its hoist and pertard It left my ceiling With holes here and there Rain came down walls; Light fixtures gulped air. Nothing was damaged Dound under the ceiling - Except water clamored For a place to be "kneeling" If I'd been able -bodied And had a big truck I'd a muscled and sullied And saved it. Hup! Hup! A darling yourn nurse (Christa) ANd her wonderful spouse (Cody) Took me out of my hearse And toward the church house. Ne'er such a trip - "Above", over and under Debri and litter And things torn asunder. The farther we went The more I shuddered, And said with intent, "I'm SO lucky!" I stuttered. Cody called my son, Said, "Your mother's with me; You can talk to your mom, She's well as can be." - You know me! - I survive on good humor, I told David with glee Of our 4-By maneuvers. I looked up to see Cody chuckling with Christa: "This old gal of the twister Is something! Woopee! She'll make it OK. She's a Hum Vee!" By Dora Jo - used with permission |
