Jesus Chose You
<Return to Sermon Outlines>
-Introduction
-Much of life has to do with choices. We make them everyday – many of them minor
and insignificant. Yet, there are those times when a major, significant decision is
required.
-Sometimes we make very good decisions. Other times we don’t. Yet, regardless,
occasions requiring more decisions will continue to come.
-Much of the same can be applied to our lives as Christians– decisions…many of them.
-Decisions
-Josh. 24:14-15 – “choose”
-God has granted us free will. He gives us the freedom to make choices.
-Now, he provides us with all that we need to make proper choices – 2 Pet. 1:3,
2 Tim. 3:16-17.
-Yet, we have to make our own decisions.
-Numbers 13:1-2, 17-20, 25-26
-overview of report by the spies and reaction of the people
-Num. 14:5-9, 20-23 – Obviously a poor decision can have serious, lingering
consequences.
-Num. 14:39-45
-Deut. 27:1-4, 12-14, 15-26 (curses - “anyone who…”)
-Deut. 28:1-14 – “Blessings”; 15-67 – “Curses”
-These blessings and curses were not decisions God made separate and apart from His
people. Instead, these were decisions made in response to those of His people.
-For Good Decisions Look to Jesus
-To help us in our decisions, we need to look to the Word –in print and in person.
-Ps. 119:105
-John 1:1-5, 14
-1 Pet. 2:21-25
-context –vs 18-20
-Yet, in all things, we can look to Jesus for the perfect example.
-When considering the perfect life of Jesus, we must remember that He had the
freedom and therefore the opportunity to choose otherwise. He had the option of
sinning.
-Heb. 2:18, 4:15
-Jesus Chose Us
-Matthew 26:34-54
-Jesus was agonizing over what awaited Him! And, at any time, He could have called
“more than twelve legions of angels” for the purpose of sparing Himself, delivering
Himself.
-In other words, He could have chosen Himself over us. But, instead of choosing
Himself, He chose you and me.
-So, as we live our daily lives, we face many decisions. And, at the core of many of
those decisions is this question: Who am I going to put first? Me or my Lord?
-Let’s look to Jesus, be motivated by Jesus and keep Jesus first in our lives.
-He chose us. Let’s choose Him.
-Heb. 12:1-2
