REFLECTIONS

Thanks, Joe

Joe M announced on Sunday that he is resigning as an elder.  Thank you, Joe, for the service you’ve rendered as an elder this past five years.  The Bible tells elders to “be examples to the flock” (1 Peter 5:3 NASB).  And Joe has done that very well.  Working closely with the elders, as preachers do, I’ve witnessed this time and time again.  Joe has been gentle, like Jesus (Matthew 11:29) and Joe also has been firm and bold when necessary.  Something that describes Joe well is that he is “quick to hear” and “slow to speak” as James 1:19 instructs us to be.  Again, thanks Joe, for all you’ve done as an elder.

House to House, Heart to Heart

Speaking of elders, our elders have been doing some great things.  For example, I’m excited about the elders’ decision to mail out the magazine, “House to House, Heart to Heart” to people outside of our church in the community.  This is a very good magazine—attractive to the reader, and Biblical.  And the copies of the magazine that will be sent out to our community will include information about our congregation, such as the location and service times.

David South

As Bill A announced Sunday, our gospel meeting will soon be here (April 11-14).  Many of you know the speaker well.  David South was the preacher here 15 years ago.  And I have heard many great things about his ministry here.  Those of us who have come to the congregation in the last 15 years might have been here in August of 2004, when David held another meeting for us.  I was here then, and remember David as both a great speaker and a great person.  I look forward to his coming in April.

Rose Whyte

I remember Rose Whyte as such a sweet, Christian lady.  We can trust that while her body is laid to rest in the ground, her soul has been escorted by angels to a place of comfort (Luke 16:19-25), and that there’s a great day coming when both her body and soul will go to be in heaven for eternity (John 5:28-29; Matthew 25:31-46).
